IED Milano: Vagabond

Designed for IED Milano’s Summer Course, this piece is inspired by my travels over the past few years. My frequent movement results in both connection and disconnection from the present. As I am always moving forward, oftentimes it is difficult to ground myself in the moment. I yearn for connection, but like fleeting light from a subway car, these moments become fractured as each city passes by and propels me to the next.

Since completing my bachelor’s degree, I have been inspired by my experiences while solo-traveling. Constant movement brings both connection and disconnection, a rhythm of departure and arrival that makes it difficult to stay grounded in the present. I long for connection, yet like the fleeting light of a passing subway car, each moment fragments as one city gives way to the next, pushing me forward before I can fully arrive. This piece is a physical representation of these feelings.
